Black Press All-Stars Awards Accepting Nominations (extended deadline)
It's not to late to nominate your favorite Black owned publication!
Black media professionals will gather to commemorate the accomplishments of Black newspapers, magazines, executives and broadcast professionals at the 2nd Annual Black Press All-Stars Award in Baltimore, MD on September 15-17, 2006. We're going to recognize outstanding Black-owned newspapers and publications at the 2nd Annual Black Press All-Stars Award Luncheon. The winners will appear in “Black Press All-Stars: Best of the Black Press,” a special supplement which will be published in an upcoming issue of Black Press Magazine. Get the application now. “Black Writer of the Year” | “Black Photographer of the Year” | “Student Journalist of the Year”
SUBMISSIONS: For the “Best Black Newspaper,” “Best Black Magazines” and the “Best Black News Web Site” categories, we will choose three overall winners– one each from small (under 10,000 circulations), medium (10K – 30,000 circulation) large (over 30,000 circulation). Radio and TV shows should include a 15 minute tape of the program. Web sites should include urls and print outs. Ad agencies must include tear sheets.
CRITERIA: The top publication will be evaluated on 1) the overall quality of the publication; 2) the ability to attract and retain reader interest; and 3) the ability to provide a forum for issues. The winner in each category will get coverage in Black Press Magazine, including a quarter page advertisement, a personalized recognition certificate, and a “Best of the Black Press” T-shirt for the Black Press Magazine’s editors.
NOMINATIONS: The public can nominate their favorite publications or magazines by sending in their comments on typed, double spaced sheet of publication. The name of the publication, address/contact information and frequency of the publication must be included. Each nomination must include a signature and contact phone number must be given for all nominations for verification purposes.
Publishers and representatives of publications may nominate their publications by filling out the nomination form in its entirety, include two issues from the approved evaluation period, a copy of the rate sheet and return by August 15, 2006 , along with at least three current sample issues and one past issue from between 3/1/2005 and 07/1/2006 for comparison purposes. Each nomination must include a signature and contact phone number must be given for all nominations for verification purposes.
