Exclusive: Je'Caryous Johnson is back with new play "Whatever She Wants" starring Vivicia A. Fox and Boris Kodjoe
Whatever She Wants stars Boris Kodjoe and Vivica Fox

(BlackPressMagazine .com) --NAACP Image award winners executive producers Je'Caryous Johnson, (right) and his business partner, Gary Guidry are back with a hot new stage play called, "Whatever She Wants" starring Vivica A. Fox (The Salon, Set it Off) and Boris Kodjoe (Soul Food, Gospel).

"Whatever she wants deals with the superficial ways that we put on love. The idea came from a group of women, six figures, three degrees and no man," said Johnson.

"They had all the qualifications, but no man. The more I talked to them, the more I realized these women were having a hard time finding men. There was a checklist involved and few men measured up. It got me thinking, "Are we setting the barometer too high?"

"We’ve always wanted to work with Vivica. She’s on the cover of my Men, Money & Gold Digger’s book," Johnson says. "We’ve tried to work with Boris for about three years now. The project was right, the timing was right, the character was right. [Gary and I] always try to beat your last project," said Johnson.

With so many plays under their belt, Johnson says he doesn't have a favorite.

"I don’t have a favorite, and I hope my favorite is still to come," he said.

Johnson said he and Guidry wanted to make plays that would show a true side of the Black community.

"The quality is necessary. A lot of us don’t go to Broadway. We don’t get the opportunity to see these stars up close and personal> if we get the opp someone has to bring them to us. If theater is a rehearsal for change, then we have to stop playing the part. They’re not shooting the dice on this game called life," Johnson said. "The key is to keep rolling. One day you’ll hit that love that your sorrowful yesterdays become beautiful tomorrows."
