Three months after the death of Randy Hubbard Parker in July, the son of rap pioneer KRS-One, the hip hop community came together to honor the rap legend with the prestigious, "I Am Hip Hop Award" at the 2nd Annual BET Awards. Dr. Cornell West presented KRS-One the award at the event, which took place on October 13, 2007 in Atlanta, GA.
KRS-One took time to remember his son and to call upon the industry to do more and to reinstitute the "Stop the Violence" campaign that was started in 1994.
"We're men. We're women. We have children," he said. "It's time for us to show the younger generation what hip hop was intended to be about."
Kanye West scored big with his sizzling hot performance which was considered to be hands down the best. He also walked away with two awards which he tried to give away but Outkast’s Big Boi rejected the offer saying, “No, you earned it.” Rapper Lil’ Wayne wowed the crowd with an important performance that viewers will likely feel is one of the best.
