Spotlight: Bossman tapped by Jermaine Dupri for Virgin Records
(BlackPressMagazine.com) - When Jermaine Dupri and Virgin Records snatched up Baltimore's own Bossman, 24, a talented MC with an impressive flow, it was one of the biggest hip hop record deals to be made in a long time by an independent artist. Bossman had already sold over 10,000 albums on his own hustle when he inked the deal with Virgin.
"From the second you hear Bossman, you know he understands the importance of lyricism and also how to relate to the masses," HipHopWorld.net wrote about the artist. "Many say that for Bossman the challenge will be to not allow his artistic gift to be tainted by all the "White Tees" and "J-kwons" in his circle. Bossman hopes to prove that underground and commercial music can merge flawlessly."
Born Travis Holifield, Bossman earned much respect from hip hop heads when he signed the contract that entertainment industry insiders say was likely worth close to $2 million. Not bad from an indie artist.
"This court is now in session. A lot of rappers have been subpoenaed for writing wack azz rhymes," Bossman raps in crowd favorite and CD title track, "Law and Order."
Bossman was recently featured on BlackPressRadio.com's new segment, "5 people you need to know." To learn more about hip hop read, "The State of Hip Hop."
