Study: Internet Radio Listening Doubled in Past Year
April 10, 2007 -- Black Press Magazine has learned that Internet radio listenership has doubled in 2006.
As part of our goal to enhance the Black Press through technology, The Historical Black Press Foundation has owned Black Press Radio.com since 2005 and Black Podcasts.com since 2006
A new study from American Media Services delves into Internet radio listenership. According to their results, 67 percent of those surveyed said they have listened to a radio station online. This is almost double the number from just a year ago, as an April 2006 AMS study found just 36 percent who had responded similarly.
The study also dispelle the myth that while it is widely presumed that the majority of Internet radio listening is done in the workplace, 71 percent of respondents said they listened to online radio at home. However, 42 percent said they also listen at work, and six percent said they have streamed Internet radio via their cell phone or another portable device.
Additionally, 47 percent said they would be likely listening to Internet radio regularly in the future, with 89 percent of them saying they expected to listen at home, 48 percent saying they would listen at work, 36 percent expecting to listen via a mobile device and 28 percent said they would listen via an Internet connection in their car.
In keeping with our commitment to create a Black Press Rennassiance, we're pleased to be a part of the trend of bringing Black radio to listeners on the internet. To help create more online radio options, we are hosting the first ever POD-apalooza: Everything you need to know about podcasting but didn't know who to ask. The event takes place on July 13-14, 2007 in Washington, DC. Register now
