The city of Houston, Texas was set aglow as many international people sought to reclaim, understand & appreciate their roots during the 3rd Annual Sankofa Multicultural Event on June 30th, 2007 at the Bella Aida Gardens in Houston, TX.
This popular festival delivered the heart and soul of African in the most descriptive and cultural arousing way possible.
Music plays only one role in this Festival. In addition to art and music, a multitude of family activities took place including Head tie Living arts demonstrations by Segun Gale, a bonafide kiddies old school march dubbed "Change your style," NLN the best women are from Africa contests, “African Kirk Franklin” Sammie Okposo guest appeared, Delighted Poetry reading from the audience and splendid performance by Inertia Justice and others. Hosted by Tony from World Village Square on 90.1FM and MVP (my voice is very powerful) radio.
As Africans continue to make a resounding presence in the global world, Sankofa Multicultural Festival provides an opportunity to acknowledge the works of Africans and follow some steps in celebrating our roots and tracing it to ancient times. The event, sponsored in part by Black Press Magazine and BlackPressRadio.com, served as a platform to showcase our culture and heritage.
Although the show was a forum for celebration and recognition, event founder, Linda Johnson Ofukeme, believed that the subliminal message for such event is to create a vision for the African future by embracing and building passion for our heritage against all odds. That starting a vision doesn’t necessary always require right away funds but requires dedication on your path which will incline others to give you a chance and helping to reshape Africa. The goal of Sankofa was for African Empowerment.
That is why the mission of Sankofa Multicultural Festival established to create favorable relations and cultural ties between Americans, Africans and other foreign nationals by disseminating information regarding culture and traditions as depicted in pictures, television, fashion, film, music, and all other forms of media.
