(BlackPressMagazine.com) - Often called the "Russell Simmons of Chicago," Carl D West is more than the publisher of THE TRUTH magazine, he's a bonafided leader.

From Barack Obama to Russell Simmons himself, everyone who wants to reach the hip hop community in Chicago has to go through Carl West. In this exclusive interview, West predicts the future of hip hop. As part of our Black Publisher Podcast Series, we are attempting to interview 100 Black-owned publishers. Like it or not, hip hop media is a huge part of America's Black Press.

Update: Shortly after we publshed this article, I received an email from Carl West:

"Hey DC,

Good look in BPM. I have three new projects I'm working on. The 7th Annual Hip Hop/R&B awards in Chicago on Oct 6th. The Hip Hop Spot will premeire at Negro League Cafe in Bronzeville playing nothing but local Chi-town music in a club atmosphere and featuring two acts in a mini-concert. This will be a weekly event starting immediately. Also, the Carl West Comedy Hour will kick off Sat. August 20th and every month thereafter showcasing Chicago's hottest new comics, and finally, I'm involved in the Hip Hop Imagemaker, which is being developed into a television cable show for early 'o8. Holla back and keep up the excellent work." - Carl West, publisher of The Truth Magazine. Now you see why they call him "Russell Simons of Chicago."
